A Bengaluru-based 34-year-old IT professional named Atul Subhash’s lifeless body was recovered from his residence on Monday. Police believe that Atul killed himself and left a 24-page suicide note claiming that his wife and her family were harassing him and blamed his suicide on legal problems.
Atul was originally from Uttar Pradesh and lived in Manjunath Layout, which falls in the Marathahalli police station jurisdiction. He used to work for a private firm as a senior executive in Bengaluru and after separation from his wife, he was living alone.
Details from the Death Note
The note found in his house was 4 handwritten pages and 20 typed ones. It was also emailed to several people and posted in a WhatsApp group associated with an NGO he was active with.
The note by Atul was that his wife who worked at Accenture was already taking Rs. 40,000 per month for maintenance “despite working and earning her own money”. He said she threatened him with another Rs. 2-4 lakhs of fees.
Viral Video and Legal Trouble
In a video that went viral on social networks, Atul expressed his discontent by saying: “The tax I pay on my salary is helping the police and the legal system harass me and my family.”
According to the police records, Atul was involved in the litigation case filed by his wife in Uttar Pradesh. It was said that he had recently been affected by an unfavorable court decision that had worsened his state of mind.
Final Arrangements and Investigation
According to the media reports, before committing suicide, Atul performed a clean-up act of all his belongings. He left the note on his death, and car keys inside the cupboard. He also documented the duties that had been achieved as well as those that were still in the course of completion and left it in the cupboard. Also, the police recorded that there was a placard with the inscription ‘Justice is due’ hanging in his house.
Earlier, as Atul complained to the police, the police filed an FIR against his wife and her family. An autopsy is still ongoing to determine all the facts and details of his death at the moment.
